Japanese Food

Well, this is my first blogging about food particularly i'll start with Japanese food. Before I start, let me have some intro on it, alright? Cheers!
I used to remember tho
se days when i was in elementary school that i used to dislike eating California Maki (sushi roll) from ParkRoyal Hotel in Penang. And that was the first time tried Japanese food. It was recommended by my mom's friend because her child likes sushi. Back then when i tasted the sushi, just one slice of the roll after i tasted, i felt like puking or vomitting *pls excuse me for that coz I was really young that time*.hehe... I guess it was because of the so called weird vinegar taste. After that incident, i have never eaten sushi again after several years until one day my bro bought the cheap crabstick maki from Sushi King and i tempted to try it since he assured me that it's gonna taste really nice. Then all this lovey dovey for Japanese food craving started ever since that day. thx bro cause sometimes I'm really an addict over it. I guess ppl really do change;) of course for the better in this case?!:P

This is also my first time blogging after I stopped for two years. I dont really blog cause i'm too lazy for that. I wont be bias with the description that will be mentioned, anyhow, dont give too much of an expectation as i'm not an expert in blogging, just blogging for the fun of it. oh ya, i dont use a heavy, powerful DSLR camera to shoot those pictures and you might be upset over it cause of the pictures not being super clear, I'll either use my old digital still camera or my W800i Sony Ericsson mobile to capture those moments. Just bear with me okay..

I'll start off with Sakae Sushi, they have many outlets all over in the Peninsular Malaysia. But for my case, I had it in Georgetown, Penang.
My favourite sashimi is Salmon....my mummy used to have the fear of eating it cause she said it's raw and uncooked, so it might have alot of bacteria infesting ins
ide it and will cause us human beings to be in diarrhoea. After convincing her to try it for the first time many many years ago, i kinda regret it cause everytime i called this, she'll somehow eat my share too without me realising it. and that's all my fault....muahahaha....and she said since I like Japanese food so much, i should marry a Jap guy instead. *sigh* Mummy, i would just luv to eat the food, not the guy;P

The price is around rm10 for 5 slices *not tat cheap n not so expensive, reasonable so far*. Sometimes it's really fresh but at times it's not so....and sometimes quite thick slice n at times they were vice versa. So depends on the quality control;)

My another newly discovered fav sashimi is Butter Fish. It'll definitely taste better when you dip the sashimi with the mixture of wasabi and black sauce. 1 plate costs around rm 6 for 3 slices. same goes with the quality control.

Next was the Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab. It tasted nice and crunchy when
it's immediately served *hot*. It costs around rm10, but to my opinion, it's quite costly as the crab are cut into small pieces and there were only 5 small pieces. Obviously, they weren't enough. Well, i'm not condemning but just giving my point of view:)

It was a set, which came with a variety of dishes consisting Hotate Mentaiyaki (Scallop with Cod Fish Roe) *I guaranty u'll be tempted for more* & Teriyaki Salmon *i dont like the cooked salmon*, chunks of fried chicken with Japanese curry*the curry was nice but because i always eat chicken at every other days,i'm abit bored of chicken*, a bowl of rice, chawanmushi *my fav and that's why i'm chubby coz of the nutrients inside the egg* and a bowl of seaweed soup.

Salmon Mango Lobster Maki @ Sakae Sushi
~yummyyyy....however not sure why izzit named 'lobster' coz i felt there were no sign of lobster in it~ but i chewed on something chewy like the octopus taste. Anyway, it was on limited month which was in Oct only.

Sakae Salad courtesy frm Celebrity Fitness. Normally this costs around rm9 but you can use the fitness card when you have eaten more than rm50. So it's foc. It's like the Chinese 'Yee Sang' because it had a variety of cut vegetable, salmon sashimi, salmon skin, jelly fish, tamago and comes with sweet sour plum sauce for you to mix it up before you eat it.

Deep Soft Shell Crab again with mayonnaise but this time it's from Sushi King, another Japanese food outlet. This is seriously my favourite!! *luv this so so much* I prefer this one cause i get the whole crab and i felt it's worth it although it's priced at around rm16 (hope you'll get my point
:D)

Next is the Mentai Sushi @ Sakae Sushi. Not exactly sure what 'mentai' means cause when I google for it, they gave me the search for 'mentaL' instead. but when I ordered other dishes which have the word 'mentai' in it, it's like you'll be served cod fish roe mixed with mayonnaise  sauce. So i assume it's something like this when you ordered Mentai:) Usually for 2 sushi which comes in a red plate will cost RM 5.90. This time for the Oct'10 promotion, a plate only costed RM1.30. However, one table can only order a max of 2 plates.
To me, i felt that it's quite expensive as the salmon slice was really thin and the cod fish roe mayonnaise was not much:( *I wonder was it due to the instability of economy and everything has risen up, they cut down on the quantity on food*.
Btw, talking bout that, it kinda ridicule me that the price of every single thing has risen up, and yet, employers of the company are still trying to exploit their workers and giving them low monthly salary!! That really pissed me off badly. How to survive?!
I hope one day that the government can really fixed a basic high monthly wages to be given to the employees which the employers must abide according to their qualification.
Back, to this, since it's quite cheap on that month, I think it was okay to me.

This is the Deep Soft-Shell Crab Don (rice) @ Azuma, Queensbay Mall in Penang. It was merely rice at the bottom of the crab and pieces of crab which was topped with mayonnaise on it as design. Since it was quite dry as a meal, you'll be served with miso soup.
It was a worth to try!:D

California Temaki (roll) @ Azuma as dessert. LOL....

Right now here's a review about a Japanese restaurant over at mainland, which is across the Penang Island. It's called Isshin, located at Juru Autocity (about 15 min from Pg Bridge). The price of the food wasn't that cheap but since the quality served was good. It's worth for a try! And you might definitely consider to go back  for more:)

On your left, is the bento set meal. Most of my colleagues ordered bento set meal but with different type of dishes in it. My bento came with 3 slices of really fresh Butter fish (sashimi) which were thick too, a Tempura prawn with its deep fried brinjal & a sweet potatoe, a piece of fried Salmon *i think*, a scoop of mash potatoes & some seasoned pickled. This set meal also came with miso soup, chawanmushi; my fav *wink* and some small slices of watermelon as dessert.

Lastly, since one of my colleague has their membercard, we were all served with 2 scoops of ice-cream (macha green tea & vanilla flavour) for those who ordered the bento set meal:)

p/s: It was a memorable day to be gathered with my colleagues. Hope that we would be able to have those time together again:)

As for this coming Japanese Restaurant, it's called Edo Ichi.
Located at the lower ground floor of Island Plaza, exactly next to Coffee Bean. The price was something similar to Isshin & Azuma. Saw from other blogs that this restaurant has the same management as Azuma.

My mummy ordered this Yaki Udon (fried fat Japanese noodle). It was tasty. However there wasn't much of an ingredient, just vege & a few prawns.

Here came the grilled Japanese squid. I called this as I haven't tried that before. It's was nice if you consume it when it's served hot. But after awhile, it became cold very soon as the air-cond was very powerful.
It was just okay to me but since I have indigestion problem, I felt as if the squid got stucked along the way from my throat. Geezz, guess i was feeling like an old grandma. haha...Don't forget, the price is costly here, around RM 25.

Edo Ichi Pizza Salmon and Unagi (Eel). Actually the base of the pizza wasn't made of dough. Instead it was the Japanese rice. It was pricey too, around RM35. One can try it, it's unique than the ordinary Western pizza.

One can see here the colourful orange colour on top of the pizza, it's the cod fish roe decoration. And btw, eat it when it's hot, directly after served ya!

Till here 'bout Japanese food.................:)
