Recipe: Jackie's Nourishing Herbal Soup with Lingzhi

Mission for this herbal packet ingredients from the boy was to make a nourishing herbal healthy soup which mainly features Ganoderma, mushrooms that grow on woods.
Traditionally, the Chinese and the Asians believe that brewing soup from this "sticks" will promote health and longevity in ancient times.
These days, Ganoderma is scientifically known to have a lot of bioactive compounds which have potential therapeutic benefits such as antibacterial effect, antiviral, antifungal, reducing blood cholesterol, anticancer effect, antioxidant effect and many more.
One could also easily purchased Ganoderma supplements at the pharmacies' shelves. ;)

A packet of nourishing soup ingredients consisting of lingzhi on the far left (scientifically known as Ganoderma), poria (whitish coloured wood-decayed fungus), boxthorn fruit (scientifically known as Fructus lycii), red dates (scientifically known as Fructus jujubae) and dang shen on the far right (scientifically known as Radix conodopsis).

First, empty all of the soup ingredients into the pot.
Then, add around 300g of chicken meat into the pot.

Next, add around 1500mL of water into the pot.

Boil the whole mixture of ingredients and meat.
I used a pressure cooker for this, in order the fasten the time of boiling (for just a few minutes). After a few minutes of boiling, the whistling of the pressure cooker would have been heard. I waited for 10 -15 minutes for it to cool down before opening the lid up. Otherwise, there would be a rocket firing up from the lid. LOL~
I reboil it again by turning the fire lower, to ensure that the soup was properly boiled. Test the red dates. Make sure that they were soften enough and there were some fragrant smell coming out during the second boiling of the nourishing soup too.
If one uses a conventional pot, one may have to boil it for an hour and a half. >.<
Lastly, add salt or soya sauce to taste.

Tadaaa~ 2 bowls of nourishing herbal soup for the body and soup are ready! :D

This soup is believed to be tranquilizing for the mind and would give vitalizing energy for the body too. *yum yum yum*
It was slightly bitter in taste as Ganoderma would give such bitter taste.

Mission accomplished!

~The End~
