Recipe: Jackie's Fish Maw Soup (Healthy Soup)

Jackie's mission is to learn how to boil a bowl of healthy soup. ^.^

A box of dried fish maw slice from the boy during Chinese New Year.
He's really such a thoughtful person.

This is how a slice of dried fish maw looks like.
The excerpts from the box stated that fish maw is regarded by the Chinese community as one of the four major nutritious food. It is highly priced among the eight famous marine delicacies. It is rich in pectin and collagen which would nourishes the body and helps maintain youthfulness ;)
This fish maw processed by Eu Yan Sang is believed to be high in protein and low in fat.
Thus when I soaked it inside the water, it didn't have oily substance floating out too, as compared to the normal fish maw mom bought during Chinese New Year.

First, boil the dried fish maw slices for about 30 min. Then soak it inside the water for about 1 1/2 hours (instruction mentioned to soak for 3 hrs though. I had to cut short it. Too impatient to wait that long. haha~)
Wash the soaked fish maw slices and cut into tiny pieces.

Boil a fresh~2000 mL of water and add in some red dates (to encourage blood circulation in the body), a piece of cut ginger (to reduce indigestion as fish maw is known to cause indigestion to people who have indigestion problem) and the cut tiny fish maw into the pot of boiling water.
Boil for 30min to 1 hr at high heat.

Then simmer for 4 hours as instructed (however, as I was a lil' impatient to wait until midnight, I transferred all these into a pressure cooker. I then just heat it up until the pressure was released. I repeated it twice before i turned off the fire.
Next, wait for ~15 min before opening the lid of the pressure cooker. Otherwise, it might just pop out into one's face.
Then, add salt to taste.

Tadaaaa...healthy soup of fish maw is ready to be served.
Tasted a lil' strange at first, as I have the thought of adding some sweetness into the soup.
After several spoonful, it tasted all good without any sugar being added in. :D

Jackie's mission succeeded.
